Everything You Need To Know About Hand Tied Hair Extensions

Long, voluminous hair is all the rage right now. After all, fuller hair can make every woman look at least 5 years younger. (Yes, please!) Which is why we’re thrilled to be certified in Habit hand-tied hair extensions. Let’s get ready to transform your personal style.

What are hand-tied hair extensions?

The technique was created by Hair by Chrissy at Habit Salon, where the wefts (or strips of hair) are sewn and beaded into your hair making them appear seamless, thin, and the most natural-looking type of extension. They lay flat against your head—meaning they’re comfortable AND undetectable. Even better? There is no glue, heat or tape involved. Plus, they can be washed, dyed, straightened, and curled with heating tools.

Is it safe for thinner hair?

Most definitely! It’s a great way to add length and volume without ruining your hair. Since the wefts are so thin, they’re nearly invisible so you’ll never have to worry about the extensions showing through.

Can you work out with them?

Absolutely! In fact, if you have an active lifestyle (think going to the gym, running, or swimming), you won’t have to worry about the extensions slipping or any discomfort. Put it in a messy bun or high ponytail, and you’re good to go.

How long does it last?

If you use salon products and limit the use of hot tools, the hair itself should last up to a year with proper care. For the best results, it’s recommended to get your extensions moved up approximately every 8 weeks, which totally depends on your natural growth and how rough or gentle you are with the extensions. When you get them moved up, you just get the rows moved up—you don’t purchase new hair each time.

How much does it cost?

This depends on your hair goals and natural hair, how many rows you get, how much hair is used, and the color you want. Hand-tied extensions are completely customized allowing you to achieve the look that you want. The best bet is to give us a call and schedule a complimentary consultation with one of our amazing stylists.

Here are some Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Brush hair thoroughly multiple times per day
  • Sulfate-Free products can only be used on the hair and those products must include a detangling serum or spray for daily use, shampoo, conditioner, mask, and detangling brush. We recommend the Kerastase line available in our salon.
  • Never sleep on wet hair
  • Use a conditioner or mask when swimming in the pool or ocean
